Description

We used to thought that mesozoic mammals were all tiny little shrew-like creatures living in the shadows of the dinosaurs. This was until the discovery in the late 90s of Repenomamus robustus from the Early Cretaceous of China, the remains of which was preserved with the content of its last meal: a baby psittacosaurus. We now know that a least some primitive mammals were hunting and feeding on dinosaurs. The species represented here, Repenomamus giganticus from the same formation had a body length of 1 meter, a giant among the mesozoic mammals. Repenomamus belong to a group called Triconodonts.
