That recent study was a bit flawed - e.g., using sulphur as the proxy for pigmentation instead of using the pigment structures themselves. There's actually no evidence for white on the feathers, and in fact the recent paper reconstructs areas on the single Berlin feather as white (due to lower amounts of sulphur) where there's evidence of black pigmentation! (in the first paper) So your previous version is actually more correct... you may want to email the authors of the first paper for a more detailed explanation.
