Spriggina by NTamura Spriggina by NTamura
Spriggina floundersi, another enigmatic animal from the Ediacaran fauna. Possibly an early arthropod of some sort...

I always love illustrations of Ediacaran organisms.  And Spriggina is one of my favorites.  I see you've interpreted it here as a benthic crawling creature rather than a frond-like form.  Is the crawler interpretation more widely accepted now?  I actually prefer that interpretation, but for some reason I thought it was generally thought to be a frond.

Well, for ediacaran fauna, nothing really is on firm ground. I just use the traditional interpretation.

This is neat! The first really realistic rendition of Spriggina I've seen, anyways.
"Spriggina! Y U NO BILATERALLY SYMMETRIC?!"

It's either an arthropod, or a proarticulatan related to Yorgia.
As much as I want to assume that Spriggina is an arthropod, whenever I see well-preserved fossils, I see a hint of the protarticulatan "glide symmetry."

Yeah, the arthropod affinity is not convincing

Are you going to do Parvancorina, next? If so, do you want some information on the White Sea species, in addition to P. minchami?
